The 20 yard container in Bentonville

When somebody calls and is not sure, the 20 yard is often the answer — it is one of our most popular sizes, with the best balance of volume and footprint for residential and light commercial jobs. Whole-home cleanouts, multi-room renovations, kitchen and bath remodels, roofing, large landscaping jobs and light demolition all fit it. It holds about 20 cubic yards, roughly six pickup truck loads or 110 to 130 standard 33-gallon bags.

It is about 22 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, which is the thing to check: that is most of a two-car driveway. It fits most two-car driveways in Bentonville, Rogers and the cities around them, and it loads easily over the 4.5-foot sides. For a project that makes debris over several days it is often the most practical choice.

Space needed

a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck to back in, and about 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of power lines and branches

Renovations, roofs, whole-home cleanouts

Furniture, bags and mixed junk from a whole house; drywall, lumber, cabinets and flooring from a multi-room remodel; shingles and underlayment off a roof; branches, shrubs and green waste from a big landscaping job; framing, doors and windows from light demolition — these are 20 yard jobs. Roofing is where the 10 and the 20 earn their keep: they are the sizes we send for roofing shingles, tar paper and underlayment, with the weight checked first.

Arkansas treats most of that load as construction and demolition waste: material from building, remodeling, roofing or demolishing a structure, including lumber, roofing, bricks, concrete, siding, drywall, masonry and metal (8 CAR § 60-106). The Benton County Solid Waste District says building materials, including construction and demolition materials, must go to a transfer station or landfill, not a household drop-off. We work with local recycling and disposal facilities, and metal, concrete and yard waste are recycled instead of dumped whenever possible.

What the 20 yard includes

Flat-rate pricing that covers delivery and pickup, disposal up to the included weight — usually 3 to 4 tons, depending on the debris — and a standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. Need it longer? We extend it for a small daily or weekly fee. Tile, plaster, shingles and wet green waste add up, so plan by weight as well as volume, load evenly front to back and side to side, and keep everything below the top rail so the tarp closes safely. For concrete, soil or brick, use a 10 yard or split the load. Protective boards go under the rails on request.

Suitability

Is the 20 yard the right size for you?

Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.

Choose the 20 yard for

  • Whole-home cleanouts
  • Kitchen, bath and multi-room renovations
  • Roofing, with the weight checked first
  • Large landscaping and storm cleanup
  • Light demolition: framing, doors and windows

Pick a different size for

  • Mostly concrete, dirt, brick or tile (a 10 handles the weight better)
  • New construction and major demolition — that is a 30 or 40
  • Driveways without about 22 feet of clear length plus the truck approach
  • Asbestos, paint, oil, chemicals, tires or batteries

Placing a 20 yard container in Bentonville

It needs a flat, solid spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide (a driveway, pad or job site, not the lawn), about 60 feet of clear approach for the roll-off truck to back in, and about 25 feet of clearance overhead, free of power lines and branches. The driveway comes first. In Bentonville, City Code § 42-80 says: "No pickups or hauling of refuse shall be made except by city-owned or authorized vehicles. Authorized vehicles shall be those as to which the owner has a written contract with the city." Homes and businesses use the City's collection service, run by a contractor under a City contract (§ 42-71), and we found no City page that mentions roll-offs or construction debris. So we check the City's requirements and the placement with you before booking. On a Bentonville street, a City right-of-way permit is needed for any work in the public right-of-way (§ 50-721), § 82-120 makes it an offense to obstruct a street, alley or sidewalk, and a truck over three tons may park on a street only while loading or unloading - in residential zones only between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. (§ 94-63). So the driveway comes first. Elsewhere the street rule is written down too: Rogers wants a ROW Use Permit before a dumpster goes in a street, right-of-way or public parking space, with a site plan and a traffic control plan for work in the street; Lowell bars obstructing any street or sidewalk (§ 22-5), so a Lowell container stays on the property; Springdale bars putting refuse or building materials on a street (§ 110-3); Siloam Springs bars obstructing streets and rights-of-way unless the administrator grants a written variance (§ 86-3); and Pea Ridge bars parking trucks over 6,000 lb on any street that is not a marked truck route (§ 8.08.01(E)). Arkansas law holds state highway right-of-way "inviolate for state highway purposes" and allows no encroachments in it (Ark. Code § 27-67-304), and we found no ArDOT permit for a container, so a container never goes in the right-of-way of I-49, US-71, US-62, US-412, AR-12, AR-72, AR-102 or AR-112. Check any neighborhood association rules too. Protective boards can go under the rails on request. Each city page covers its own rules.

20 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked

Not covered here? Call (479) 364-6745 and ask.

How many pickup loads is a 20 yard dumpster?

About six, or 110 to 130 bags. Think of it as a whole house of furniture and junk, or the debris from a multi-room renovation.

Can a 20 yard fit in a Bentonville driveway?

In most — it is about 22 feet long and 7.5 feet wide and fits most two-car driveways, and the truck needs about 60 feet of clear approach and about 25 feet of clearance overhead. Put it on the driveway or a pad rather than the lawn.

What is the typical weight limit on a 20 yard?

Usually 3 to 4 tons included. Shingles, tile, concrete, dirt and wet yard waste are the loads that test it; household junk and remodel debris usually do not. Call for an estimate based on your debris.

How long is the rental?

A standard rental period of 3 to 7 days. If the job runs on, we extend it for a small daily or weekly fee; if it fills early, ask for a swap; if you finish early, call or text and we schedule the pickup.

Can I get a 20 yard the same day?

Often, depending on the time of your call and the location. Same-day or next-day delivery is available when availability allows — call (479) 364-6745 before noon for the best chance. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but we do not promise night or Sunday drop-offs.
