Why a cleanout needs its own dumpster

Dragging a cleanout to the curb a few bags at a time, or making trip after trip to a disposal site, drains your weekends. In Bentonville the City trash service is two carts on the utility bill, and yard waste may not go in the normal trash. In Rogers, the City's bulky pickup will not take construction or demolition debris such as toilets, boards, plywood or cabinets. Springdale runs a resident bulky-waste pickup of up to 8 cubic yards twice a year or 16 once (§ 102-6(b)), and Cave Springs holds spring and fall bulky-waste cleanups (§ 52.05). The District's drop-off sites are for household special waste only, with no household trash. A roll-off in the driveway changes the rhythm: you work continuously, toss as you go, and we haul it away in one pickup.

Match the size to the house

For a garage or single-room cleanout, a 10 is often enough; a 15 yard handles garage, attic and basement cleanouts and multi-room cleanouts, and is great for moves. For most move-outs, a 15 or a 20 offers the best balance of capacity and space. A whole-home cleanout is usually a 20 yard, which fits bulky items plus lots of bags, or a 30 yard for estate or rental property cleanouts with a lot of furniture, mattresses and mixed junk. Warehouse and office cleanouts can call for a 40. Furniture is bulky and light, so volume usually decides a cleanout before weight does. The sizing guide has the full table.

Plan, sort and work room by room

Walk the house first and list the spaces you are tackling. Then run every item through four piles, keep, donate, drop-off and toss, before anything goes in the bin. The drop-off pile is the short one: car batteries and tires, paint, solvents and chemicals, propane tanks, and fridges, freezers or AC units that still hold refrigerant cannot go in the box. Having the container on site makes the toss decision fast, because there is no pile of maybe items building up in the yard. Finish one space before moving to the next, starting with the one that bothers you most, often the garage.

  • Garage and storage: old tools, broken equipment, leftover building materials; tires, car batteries, fuel and old motor oil go to the drop-off pile.
  • Kitchen: cabinets, small appliances and cookware you no longer use; fridges and freezers go elsewhere (below).
  • Bedrooms and closets: furniture, mattresses, clothing and boxes can all go in, or to donation.
  • Attic and basement: stored boxes, old decor, keepsakes to sort; paint cans and chemicals to the drop-off pile.
  • Yard: branches, shrubs, old fencing, patio furniture; brush and leaves best as their own load.

Time it to the job

The standard rental period is 3 to 7 days, which covers most single-house cleanouts, and your quote confirms the days. Need longer? Call and we will quote a small daily or weekly extension fee, or swap a full box for an empty one. Finish early and we will schedule an early pickup. You do not need to be home for delivery or pickup, as long as we know where to place the dumpster and the area is clear, which helps when you are clearing a family member's home from out of town.

Plan the yard work too. Burning yard debris is prohibited at all times in Bentonville (fire code 307.4.6, as amended by § 14-204), and the City compost facility at 2000 NW A St takes residents' yard waste, so a cleanout with a lot of brush is easier with a yard waste box or a separate load.

What cleanout junk can go in

Most household cleanout material is fine for a roll-off: furniture of every kind, mattresses, boxes and general junk, clothing, old flooring and carpet, cabinets, small appliances, and cardboard kept flat and together. Load smart: break down bulky items, spread the weight evenly rather than piling it at one end, fill the gaps with smaller pieces, and keep everything below the top rim, because if it is overfilled we cannot legally haul it. If the cleanout turns into a remodel, with cabinets coming off the walls or flooring coming up, tell us, and do not mix dirt or concrete in with household junk without checking first.

Set these aside, and where they go

A few things turn up in every cleanout that cannot go in the box. Car batteries may not go in municipal solid waste in Arkansas (Ark. Code § 8-9-303(f)); take them back to a battery retailer or an authorized recycling facility. Whole tires may not go in a landfill unless shredded or split (§ 8-9-403(c)(3)(A)). Paint, solvents, cleaners and pesticides go to the Benton County Solid Waste District's household special-waste drop-off sites in Centerton, Rogers and Siloam Springs, for households only, or in Washington County to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center run by the Boston Mountain district. Propane tanks and gas cylinders stay out. Fridges, freezers and AC units go through our junk removal service, which takes appliances with the Freon removed. TVs and computers: call first; our junk removal service sends electronics to recycling. Usable furniture and household items can be donated, and our junk removal team recycles and donates whenever possible. The what-goes-in guide has the full list.

Driveways, HOAs and the street

The driveway is the spot. A flat, solid surface works best, and plywood or boards under the rails help protect it; ask us and we will set the dumpster on protective boards. If your home is in an HOA or a property owners association, its rules can limit how long a dumpster stays visible or where it sits, so check before delivery day and let us know about any tight access or steep drive.

Who hauls matters too. In Bentonville, City Code § 42-80 limits refuse hauling to City-owned vehicles or vehicles whose owner has a written contract with the City, so we check the City's requirements and the placement with you before booking. A street spot raises the City's right-of-way permit (§ 50-721), and trucks over three tons stand on a residential street only while loading or unloading, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. (§ 94-63). Nearby, Centerton (§ 5.08) and Bella Vista (§ 22-1(b)) run City-controlled residential collection, Little Flock bars hiring anyone but the City-specified company (§ 5.20.01), and Pea Ridge and Gravette use the same contract-only wording as Bentonville, so in those we check the City's rules before booking. The permit guide has every town we list.

Delivery day, or let us do the lifting

Our dumpsters are driveway-safe. Give us a flat, solid spot with about 60 feet of approach for the truck and about 25 feet of overhead clearance, move cars out of the way, and mark the spot with cones, tape or chalk if you will not be there. Near homes we plan drop-offs and pickups for the daytime and do not promise night or Sunday service. If you would rather not lift a thing, ask about our junk removal service, where our crew handles all the loading, hauling and disposal and recycles and donates whenever possible. Call (479) 364-6745 — the phone is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — and ask about same-day delivery if the cleanout is already under way: in most areas around Bentonville we offer same-day or next-day delivery when availability allows.

Frequently asked questions

Not covered here? Call (479) 364-6745 and ask.

What size dumpster do I need for a house cleanout?

For a whole-home cleanout, a 20 yard is the usual fit, or a 30 for an estate or rental property cleanout with a lot of furniture. A garage or attic usually needs a 10 or 15. Tell us what the home looks like and we will recommend the right size.

Can I throw away furniture and mattresses?

Yes. Furniture, mattresses, clothing and household junk can all go in a roll-off. Keep car batteries, tires, paint and chemicals, propane tanks and appliances that still hold refrigerant out.

What about an old fridge or freezer?

Set it aside. Appliances that still hold refrigerant stay out of our boxes unless the refrigerant has been properly evacuated and the unit tagged. Our junk removal service takes appliances with the Freon removed.

How long can I keep a cleanout dumpster?

The standard rental period is 3 to 7 days, and your quote confirms the days. If you need more time, call and we will quote a small daily or weekly extension fee; finish early and we will schedule an early pickup.
